Jordan R. Murphy is a native of Durham, NC. She attended Spelman College in Atlanta, GA as a Bonner Scholar and graduated with a degree in biology. Dr. Murphy went on to work in various research laboratories at Emory University. Initially, she sought to pursue a career in biomedical research, but quickly realized her efforts would not influence the community directly for years to come. In 2014, Dr. Murphy left the bench to pursue a research and clinical career as a nurse scientist and pediatric nurse practitioner, obtaining her graduate degrees and certification from Emory University Laney Graduate School and School of Nursing. Her research and clinical interests include mother-child interactions, social and emotional development, pediatric behavioral health outcomes, trauma-informed care and resiliency-focused interventions. Dr. Murphy has published research in maternal-child health and trauma-informed wellness interventions. She founded the Center for Interrelational Science and Pediatrics where she leads workforce development trainings and provides behavioral health services for community-based organizations. Girassol Wellness, Inc. (formally NurseHER, Inc.) was founded in 2015 with the desire to see families thrive by offering sensitive and specific interventions within communities challenged by social, cultural and economic hardships.
